Contemporary flat with a New Year feel

A light 85 m² flat for a family with a child. Warm beige, a pale herringbone floor, fluted round tables and glass pendants set a calm tone, while a navy kids' room and a study in graphite and wood give the rooms their own character.

Task

A calm home for a family with a child

To join the hall, kitchen, dining and living areas into one light space where each zone has its place: the dining table by the window, the sofa facing the television, the kitchen along the wall.

Besides the bedroom with its loggia, the flat needed a kids' room with a desk and a separate study, with plenty of closed storage in the hall and bathroom.

Solution

Warm beige, fluted forms and a touch of navy

In the shared space the walls and fronts are in shades of beige and taupe, and the pale floor is laid in herringbone. The round dining table and coffee tables stand on fluted bases that echo the slatted panels, with glass globe pendants above the table. The kitchen, with beige fronts and a marble splashback, continues the wall with the television on a timber panel. The hall has white wardrobes, textured plaster artworks and lights set low in the walls.

The bedroom is built around a white slatted wall and a softly upholstered bed, with a chandelier of glass spheres above it and smaller sphere pendants at the bedside. On the loggia there is a hanging wicker egg chair and a wall of timber slats.

The kids' room plays pale grey walls against navy furniture: lit shelving above the desk, a slatted TV wall, a world map and a football beanbag. The study is in graphite and wood, and the bathroom is lined with beige onyx-effect tiles, with gold-toned taps, a vessel basin on a fluted vanity and a niche for the washer and dryer.
